The Bee Day at Zespół Szkolno-Przedszkolny nr 3 im. Jana Pawła II in Rybnik (Poland) lasted a whole week and was packed with many different events. Pupils learned about the life of bees, their structure and development, the structure of the hive and the importance of bees in nature. The younger children watched a film about bees, made bees using waste materials, and had the opportunity to taste different types of honey. Older children presented the collected information in the form of lapbooks.
During the "Colourful chemistry" workshop, the children observed how the colours of liquids change depending on the added indicator and the reaction of the solution. Pupils investigated and analysed how the colours of natural dyes contained in turmeric, cabbage and flowers can change. They analysed how they could be used to study the contamination of soil and rainfall and in this way assess the state of the environment.
Some funny exercises of IT were also designed to deepen the knowledge of students on envirnomental issues.
To celebrate the International Day of the Forest, students from Zespół Szkolno-Przedszkolny nr 3 im. Jana Pawła II in Rybnik (Poland) prepared multimedia herbariums presenting native tree species. They also collected material for an instructional video about different tree species and their uses. Then, they used them to try to recognise the trees growing in the nearby forest. The younger pupils made spatial forest ecosystems and planted forests in a jar.
We started a challenge about the activities schools were organising in their Eco Clubs.
Students who participated in the Turkish mobility visited an exhibition about environment in Trabzon. The Professor of KTU gave information about how to save the nature. Students watched some short documentaries about global warming and filled in a questionnaire and got some presents too.
We have been teaching our students how to support animals in different ways: we visited dog shelters, donated food for animals in need, etc. In the Hungarian mobility, we adopted a giraffe in a zoo. While visiting the spot, we were taught why we need to support animals. We showed an alternative to our students how else they can help endangered animals so we adopted a giraffe for a year. We also received a certificate and our project's name was displayed among the donators. It was a huge experience to feed our beautiful wild animal. He was named HIPPTS (from our countries' names: Hungary-Italy-Poland-Portugal-Turkey-Spain) After the mobility we were invited to a parent meeting where we could get a general information on what has happened to HIPPTS. Some students attended this event.
